As regional volleyball excitement mounts, Hong Kong is preparing to host the 2026 Asian Eastern Zonal Women’s Volleyball Championship at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium from August 11 to 16. Returning to their home venue for the third consecutive year, the Hong Kong women’s national team enters the competition with renewed energy, determined to leverage local support into top-tier performances against regional rivals.

Led by head coach Kwok Kin-chuen (郭建全), the local squad features a balanced mix of seasoned campaign veterans and rising talent. Newly appointed captain Hiu Nok Michelle Cheung (張曉諾) steps into the leadership role as the team’s starting libero, shouldering both defensive responsibilities and team leadership in front of a home crowd.

Reflecting on her captaincy ahead of the tournament, Cheung acknowledged a mixture of heightened anticipation and natural pre-match nerves. Carrying the captain’s band for the first time on home soil presents both a privilege and a high-pressure opportunity, particularly with family, friends, and local supporters watching from the stands in Wan Chai.

Hong Kong’s group stage schedule sees them take the court for back-to-back evening fixtures. The hosts kick off their campaign on Wednesday, August 12, facing South Korea at 8pm, before returning the following evening, August 13, at 8pm to take on Mongolia.

For Cheung and her teammates, the energy inside Queen Elizabeth Stadium will be central to their strategy. The team aims to convert the local crowd’s passion into momentum on the court, using the home atmosphere to fuel their drive throughout the high-intensity preliminary rounds and into the weekend finals.
