Kowloon City edge North District on penalties after extra-time drama

Kwong Tin-lok made a shootout save as Wofoo Kowloon City outlasted Golik North District to reach the Senior Shield semi-finals after a quarter-final that neither side could settle in 120 minutes.

Kowloon City won 5–4 on penalties following a 3–3 draw at Siu Sai Wan Sports Ground. They will meet Lee Man in the last four.

Before the shootout, Chen Ngo-hin had supplied the goal that kept Kowloon City in the competition. His 99th-minute equaliser cancelled out Vinicius Soares’ strike six minutes earlier, after North had taken the lead for the first time in extra time.

The opening half had swung the other way. Mikael Severo put Kowloon City ahead in the 15th minute, Carlos Páez levelled four minutes later, and Gavin Muens restored Kowloon City’s advantage in the 23rd minute.

Samuel Granada brought North back to 2–2 in the 53rd minute. With no further goals in normal time, the tie went into an additional half-hour.

Vinicius then gave North a 3–2 lead, only for Chen to force another reset. The teams remained level after extra time, leaving the place in the semi-finals to be decided from the spot.

Kwong’s save helped Kowloon City through a shootout in which they converted five kicks to North’s four. Twice ahead in normal time and behind in extra time, Kowloon City had finally found a way through.
